• Located approximately 280 km south of Aswan on the western bank of Lake Nasser, Abu Simbel is one of Egypt’s most extraordinary archaeological treasures. The site features two magnificent rock-cut temples commissioned by Ramses II during the 13th century BC.
• The Great Temple was dedicated to Ramses II and the gods Ra-Horakhty, Amun, and Ptah, while the Smaller Temple was dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor, making it one of the few ancient Egyptian temples devoted to a queen.
